Fit and Fun for Adults with Disability

SABAH’s newest and fastest growing program, Fit and Fun provides a physical education program for adults challenged by disability. Adults with disability or special needs are particularly vulnerable to the physical problems associated with a sedentary lifestyle. Obesity, high blood pressure, and diabetes are prominent because of a lack of adaptive physical education and recreational activities. In order to provide these special needs adults with the tools for a healthy lifestyle, SABAH introduces Fit and Fun participants to activities such as volleyball, disc golf, t-ball, football, floor hockey, and other “family-style” backyard games during the summer months, as well as an ice skating program during the winter months. In addition to the benefits of physical activity, adults with disability in the program experience new opportunities for socialization, greater independence and increased self-esteem. SABAH collaborates with multiple group homes and adult day habilitation facilities in the region (including our committed and enthusiatic partners at Heritage Christian and Heritage Centers) to reach adults challenged by disability. After just two years, the instantly popular Fit and Fun program continues to provide a curriculum-based physical education program for over 110 adults with disability.
