February 2019 Athlete of the Month – Nick Cacciatore
Since 2004, SABAH athletes at the Niagara University Wednesday Evening program have enjoyed the love and enthusiasm of Nick Cacciatore. Each week at Niagara University, Nick enters the rink with great energy and eagerness. He first greets everyone with his trademark “high five” or a handshake that will make you double check to see if your hand is still attached! Nick will then take off across the ice leaving his dad, Frank, chasing behind and trying to keep up with him.
Although Nick was just six years old when he began with SABAH, he was always determined to improve his skating abilities. Now 20 years old, Nick is a natural athlete whose skills have improved to the point where he is an excellent skater in Group 3. Nick’s athletic gifts and his determination have also made him an accomplished hockey player in SABAH’s Adaptive Ice Hockey program.
Over the past 14 years, SABAH has enjoyed watching Nick’s confidence and independence grow both on and off the ice. While Nick is nonverbal, his communication skills have also vastly improved and he joyfully interacts with many of his fellow athletes and SABAH volunteers. As a true model of perseverance and courage, SABAH is pleased to name Nick Cacciatore as the 2019 February Athlete of the Month.
